Free tool · Proposed llms.txt convention

Free llms.txt Generator

Turn your homepage and sitemap into a concise llms.txt and llms-full.txt draft. No signup. Support varies by AI system.

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a proposed Markdown file placed at the root of your domain (for example, yoursite.com/llms.txt). It gives compatible tools a concise map of important pages. Adoption varies, and the file does not guarantee that an AI system will crawl, rank, or cite the site.

It is not equivalent to robots.txt or sitemap.xml, which have established crawler roles. Think of llms.txt as an optional summary layer that is inexpensive to maintain when its claims stay current.

A valid llms.txt file is short, plain Markdown. The H1 is your site name, the blockquote is a one-line summary, and the H2 sections list your most important pages with one-line descriptions:

# Example Co
> Example Co builds open-source developer tools for indie startups.

## Main Pages
- [Home](https://example.co): product overview and quick-start.
- [Docs](https://example.co/docs): full API reference and guides.

llms.txt vs robots.txt vs sitemap.xml

robots.txt

Tells search and AI crawlers which URLs they may access. Access control, not content.

sitemap.xml

Lists every URL on your site with last-modified dates. A complete index for crawlers.

llms.txt

An optional, concise map of important pages with one-line descriptions, following a proposed convention that some tools may read.

Frequently asked questions

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a proposed plain-Markdown convention for listing a site's most important pages at yoursite.com/llms.txt. Compatible tools can use it as a concise site map, but support varies and the file does not guarantee discovery, ranking, or citation.

How do I generate an llms.txt file?

Paste your site URL above. The generator fetches your homepage and sitemap, picks your most relevant pages, writes one-line descriptions for each using AI, and outputs a valid llms.txt file you can copy or download. Then upload it to the root of your site so it's reachable at yoursite.com/llms.txt.

Is llms.txt the same as robots.txt?

No. robots.txt is a supported crawler-control standard. llms.txt is an optional proposed convention that summarizes important pages for compatible tools. A site can work normally without llms.txt.

What is llms-full.txt?

llms-full.txt is an extended version that includes longer excerpts of each page's content in one file. It's useful for smaller sites that want to give AI models more context to cite, but it's optional. Toggle it on above to generate both files at once.

Where do I install the file?

Upload llms.txt to the root of your domain so it's reachable at https://yoursite.com/llms.txt. On Lovable, Webflow, and most static hosts you can place it in your /public folder. On WordPress, drop it in the site root via FTP or use a file-manager plugin.

Will adding llms.txt actually help my SEO?

There is no demonstrated Google ranking benefit, and Google does not require llms.txt for its AI features. Some compatible systems may use the file as a site summary. Treat it as a low-cost optional aid, not as a citation strategy.

Is this generator free?

Yes. It's free, requires no signup, and the file you generate is yours to use however you want.
